A Tale of Two Cities

Milwaukee Community

A tale of two cities
Historical segregation
Has a reputation
One of the most segregated in the nation
Walkin on the street
Drawing the attention of police
They may get me first
Or some other guy packing heat.

Cops on patrol
They say to keep the peace
Or may they rest in so
Because it seems we’re getting fleeced
Grass roots movements springing up
In the community
People coming together
Taking control, social unity

Together we will rise
No where they can hide
We see it every day
What they ought to keep inside

We don’t mind you doing
Smoking a little marijuana
But you do it in the open
Cops will catch you ’cause they’re gonna
Your friend is speeding by
And he just picked up a dime
They’re gonna pull him over
He will peg you with the crime

You’re going to be doing time
And that shit doesn’t jive
Let’s all stay together
And not get stuck inside

It’s going to take some time
To change the mindset of our minds.
But we’ll be lookin back
At the world we left behind
With happy blissful pleasure
Because it didn’t last forever
And you may stop to wonder
Will it return here?
We’ll say never.
